So if you’re asking yourself where do all the cool kids hang out in Paris, away from all the tourist hordes? In and around Canal Saint-Martin of course!
This under-the-radar neighborhood is located in the 10th arrondissement, and is an absolute “must” experience for any visitor or expat with children who desires a beneath-the-surface feel for Parisian culture that goes beyond the Mona Lisa, the Eiffel Tower, or the Champs Elysées.
The Canal has no thousand foot tall monuments, royal-owned property, or world famous museums, and thus isn’t included on many Paris travel itineraries. It does, however, have a great deal of character and a lot of ‘hidden’ child-friendly cafe’s and restaurants… And in summer you see many people bring a picknick basket and enjoy a lunch or gouter along the water.
If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, we (the les enfants a paris crew) all went to a small and typically French cafe ‘Chez Prune’ for a hot drink. They totally won us over with its quirky decor, limited but good menu, child-friendly staff and relaxed ambience.
And everyone was dressed in style of course! Have a look and let us know you’re favourite outfit!
