Meal times can be stressful enough, but what do you do when your little ones reach that awkward in between size – too big for a high chair, too small for a regular chair? Unless you have a stack of phone books left over from the 90s, you’re probably going to have to check out some other options.
Let us introduce you to TeddySit ®, a Danish family business.
Would you mind introducing yourself and your brand to our readers?
TeddySit ® is a family business – comprising Pia and my husband Anders, and supported by our son Emil. The objects are to manufacture booster seats designed on the children’s terms and create happiness. We aim at ensuring that our booster seats will speak to the feelings with a unique design signalling trust, peace of mind and attractiveness. Today, the TeddySit ® brand has been expanded with cuddling pillows, hooks and sitting poufs. TeddySit ® is manufactured socially responsibly in Denmark.
What was your background prior to starting TeddySit ® ?
At the beginning of 2013, I decided to give up my marketing and event career and change lanes. Consequently, all drawers were re-opened. Here I found TeddySit ® … along with a quotation in some old papers from my time with Disneyland Paris: ”Make every day more magical”. We were inspired to pursue our dreams and create. Therefore, in March 2014 TeddySit ® became a reality.
How did you develop your skills as a designer?
I’ve have always had a creative ability and I get immense satisfaction from creating something.
What sort of clothes and or accessories did you enjoy wearing as a child and what did you hate wearing? What did you like to play with as a child?
I loved to play with dolls in my imaginary home.
Where does the name of your brand come from?
TeddySit ® – Home is where Teddy sits.
Can you tell us a bit more about your designs from the current collection? And something new you are working on for the future?
We design products designed on the children’s terms taking in consideration the trends and colors. Our polar bear collection in Nordic colors is very popular. We make a conscious effort to minimize material waste in the manufacture and therefore also avoid seasonal designs. News: We are working on new huggable cushions.
Any restrictions or other things you need to bear in mind when designing for children?
We cooperate with suppliers that naturally live up to EU’s chemicals legislation REACH. For example, we use digital textile print in Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 and the cold foam seat cushions are certified according to Oeko-Tex®.
How does it feel to see a child using one of your designs?
Happy Happy Happy!
What do you love most about your job?
I pursued my dream by creating my own company TeddySit ®. We’re creating magic moments and happiness every day – I love it! – even though entrepreneurship is hard work.
What is your greatest strength?
See opportunities and problem solver. I have the ability to see a situation from different perspectives.
What is your greatest weakness?
I’m overly self-critical
Do you have children?
We have a son, Emil, who is 16 years old. Ever since Emil was three, both my husband and I have lacked a solution, which we could use when dining out or when travelling. Emil is in that way the idea behind TeddySit ®.
Where can we find TeddySit ® ?
Selected shops in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, France, Germany and soon Portugal. We are in the process of expanding TeddySit ® hopefully soon you can see even more shops. Find mores information at www.teddysit.dk
If one of our readers is in your city, Copenhagen, for 24 hours. What things would you recommend they do?
I have selected some of my favorite places you can explore if you’re spending one day in Copenhagen, Denmark. One of the great things about Copenhagen is that you can walk to almost everything. It is really the best way to explore the city. You should visit some of the museums Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek or The National Museum. Remember to stop by a cozy café at Nyhavn and end the day at visiting the Tivoli Gardens.
