Would you mind introducing yourself and your brand to our readers?
Hello, we are Katie and Ryan from BEBE DE PINO. Our business was started in 2010 under the following slogan: “Like no other store in the world”. This reflects our desire to craft artistic and unique designs that sets us apart from other brands. If you are seeking ordinary and common designs, we might disappoint you. However, if you are looking for something special, unique, or witty, our store is right for you. we would like to make your kids extra special with our genuine and lovely items.
Where does the name Bebe de Pino originate from?
Bebe De Pino is Spanish for “Little Pine.” We launched this brand in 2010, which was the same time my precious daughter, Sol, was born. Her name “Sol” can also mean in Korean for “Pine Tree” which signifies Asian’s courage and constancy in Korean culture by maintaining it’s green color even during the winter time against wind and snowstorm.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background? How did you become a designer?
Katie was working as a Merchandiser, Ryan was working as a Designer who specially majored in both visual design and fashion design. That’s why he shows a abiding interest in graphic arts. We have a lot of interest of clothing which lead us to still work in Fashion filed and after having our first child, we could start to get much more interest about children’s clothing. we motivate each other by sharing different ideas and working together.
What are the inspirations or motivations behind your design?
Trend and History these two facts are considered to be very important things to work. We always pay attention to where our clothing is coming from and where current trend is towards. These facts should be able to coexist, if it doesn’t, either item’s quality or popularity from customers can be dropped. However, we would like to say every pieces form work reflect our love and passion to our children. Making what I want to dress up my children is the most important inspirations and motivations.
Do you have children? How does that influence your work?
We have two daughters. once, we made a small bib for fun to my daughter, we started to make other items and then other people started to keep asking how they can buy, so as making what we want to need for my daughter, that let us make our brand. by letting my daughter wear, we realized comfortable clothes are very essential for children and we are willing to design what she wants to wear in her sight. now my first daughter become 6 years old who wish to tell us her favorite design and color for the specific item. so sometimes we let her choose the color to produce also she gave us some graphic motivation. She has lots of unique idea which often surprise us hahaha!
What are some essentials that every child should have in their closet?
Personally, I like to coordinate anything with socks, especially knee socks. There are no doubt that we could start to launch our brand because of huge popularity of our knee socks. It can be huge difference how you match by it on basic look. I wish to recommend bright color of knee socks during the spring and summer season, you can recreate yourself too!!
What are the most rewarding and most challenging aspects of your job?
The most challenging aspects would be the pain of creativity by running this design brand company. It’ quite hard to meet up the customers’s expectation and chagable trand in every season. However, we truly believe that great design can be loved by anyone from the world without having a difficult concept and lots of explanation. Every season, our sincere and elaborate works which can be compared to our kids get great evaluation from our customers are very rewarding. Especially, it was an overwhelming moment when we opened our first load shop after running an online mall for 4 years from 2010. After that 26 shops of BEBEDEPINO could be opened just during 2014, now we export to 26 distributors in 16 contries. Growing attention from all over the world makes us to work harder with full of enjoyment with all of our staffs.
If one of our readers is in your city, Seoul, for 24 hours. What one thing would you recommend they do?
Seoul is a major metropolis that deserves more than just a few hours to see and experience. But if you’re on a layover and you just want to get a glimpse of the city, then here are a few tips for you.
I would like to recommend to go to a historical place such as Gyeongbokgung, Samcheongdong, Insadong, Cheonggyecheon, and Myeongdong route (all within walking distance of each other). this places show coexistence of the past and present which allow you to understand more about Korean culture in Asia.
Especially, My favorite place, Insadong is where you’ll find traditional Korean arts and crafts such as celadon pottery and ink drawings. There are quite a few art galleries here as well. This is the place to buy that souvenir for friends and family back home. You can walk here from Samcheongdong and have a nice lunch at one of the hanok (traditional style house) restaurants.
