By adding a doll house to your home, it’s amazing to see the amount of things children will discuss, learn and imagine together. Through doll house play your child can learn so many things.
As you might know my boy loves imaginative play and over time we have managed to accumulate all manner of figurines in our toy collection – Schleich animals, dinosaurs and fairies, Sylvanian creatures to name just a few. Of course, these characters all need somewhere to live and while he regularly builds homes from blocks, he also loves his new Casita by the Spanish brand Knoknoknok. 
Las Casitas are awesome modern doll houses (available in different sizes and colours) for all children and for parents who find the cliche of gendered dollhouses undesirable, but who also find many modernist dollhouses lacking a sense of joy and imagination. Time for an interview with Ronit and Fred, the people behind Knoknoknok.
Would you mind introducing yourself and your brand to our readers?
An artist and a designer meet set up a business and start a family at the same time. We love life and enjoy the little things everyday.
What was your background prior to starting Knoknoknok?
We have created, designed and managed projects for Magazines, Museums, Agencies, you name it.
What got you started working in children’s design?
Our own kids and our clients.
A dollhouse is usually meant for girls. We find this dollhouse to be totally unisex. Would you like to comment on this?
We created LAS CASITAS funky & modern for kids both girls and boys… and wait! This is just the beginning.
What is the dollhouse made of?
Translucent acrylic. We choose the material and its color carefully. LAS CASITAS seems to have light of their own.
Anything you need to bear in mind when designing ‘toys’ for children.
The kids have to love it; it’s not about us.
Do you have children?
Yes, two boys, our horizon.
What has changed in your life since you became a mother/father?
We aim equilibrium between business and family.
What is the best thing about being a mother/father?
Our kid’s laughter: worth everything.
How do you combine motherhood/fatherhood and work?
We do our best everyday.
Tell us a bit about your drive and purpose, your vision for your designs.
We make funky design accessories for your living rooms and working spaces and truly believe that local business has never been that reasonable, that fun and that fancy before. Therefore we have decided to produce LAS CASITAS in Spain: where we live, work and dream.
What do you feel makes your work unique?
Colors and shape. Rien que ça!!
What’s your favorite design from your current line?
La Casita Yellow Neon.
What are some essentials that every child should have in their closet / toyroom?
Loads of color and enough time to play.
Where do you shop for you children?
Our favorite is: The toy boxes at their grandparents…
If one of our readers is in your city, which is, for 24 hours. What things would you recommend they do?
Try to combine its nightlife and its fabulous food and nature: a walk in River Manzanares and a picinic in The Sierra de Guadarrama Mountains.
